Pathfinder Open Reference 1.0.15 Released!

Now that I am settled in in Colorado, it’s time to get a release out.  This release has focused on a ton of small usability features and defects. I started linking tables to articles, starting with monster related ones. I hope to get most other tables linked later.

1.0.15 -
* Words of Power were missing, added
* NPC Gallery npcs were missing – they now show up under monsters as well
* Linked NPC Gallery table to NPCs
* Linked Summon Monster/Nature’s Ally spells to creatures
* Fixed formatting issues for vehicles, race creator, and various spells
* Find in page tool can now be hidden

Please add some sort of loading animation, or simply something that informs the user that the app is loading when opening it. When opening it for the first time, or when it’s not running in the background and one opens it, I can’t stop from thinking “is it loading? still loading? or frozen?” :) This would be very neat, at least when using a smartphone with less memory than a pad.

    I have a HTC Desire S with Android 2.3.5

    Regards

Your app is awesome, i really appreciate the work you have put into it. I do have one small suggestion to improve it though.

When you quote the reference source as being one of the books, would it be possible to also add the page number of that book where the reference source can be found?

Thankyou and keep up the great work :-)

The rules are not pulled from the book, but instead from the pathfinder SRD http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/. So I have no information in the document relating to page numbers, and I believe under the open gaming licence I am not actually allowed to directly reference the works in that way. What I can do is find all of those references and have them link to the appropriate rules in the app. Hopefully that accomplishes what you are looking for.

Any word in the next update? Can’t wait to get the new prc’s on here. I thank ks for making an awesome app and continuing to improve it!

I have a bunch of changes in the funnel right now. The current released app include all books in the paizo prd: http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/ . I should have a release ready to go before the end of the year that adds a number of features:

      1. breaking out all the class customizations so you can find them in the menu system (archetypes, wizard schools, druid animal companions, etc)
      2. Quick reference content at the menu level (combat maneuvers, conditions, etc)
      3. Hazards are more searchable. (poisons, diseases, traps, etc)
      4. NPCs and monster templates are easier to find
      5. The ability has been added to turn off any of the books in case you have a gm who does not allow say Ultimate Magic

And a number of other features.

Sadly the Ultimate Equipment guide has still not made it out to the prd site, so I still have to wait until they decide to release that. As soon as it’s up, I’ll do a release for that as well.

I read #1 and was amazed, then I read everything else and absolutely love all that’s coming. I cannot wait! Thanks!

1 last question, will you be updating it with the other prc’s listed here: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/prestige-classes/other-paizo like Agent of the Grave and whatnot?

        • admin says:

Right now the app is based on the paizo psrd: http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/

That being said, I’m talking with the guy who runs d20pfsrd.org about how we can work together.

One of the big benefits of the feature related to turning content off is that it got me about 80% of the way to being able to support downloading of content. My hope is within a few releases I’ll be able to offer users a way to download other books they are interested in.

Amazing app! I’m looking into writing an app myself and was curious, how difficult would it be to convert this to another system? I would love to dig into the source code or provide an alternate data source for some OSR editions, but haven’t a clue where to start.

    • admin says:

The app itself sits on top of a JSON format. I don’t have a spec for the format, but this is the output: https://github.com/devonjones/PSRD-Data. I have a program that dumps this json into an sqlite3 database, which in turn is what the app actually runs on: https://github.com/devonjones/PSRD-Parser. Some of these tables/json objects are Pathfinder/D20 specific, while the basic one (the “section” object) is very reusable, and it’s database representation is very very flexible.

If you could get the data in, then any tables you had to modify you would need to correspondingly modify the queries in the app, and finally, every json object type has it’s own class for rendering it. Most of the app is reusable for another system, but there would certainly have to be modifications. The starting point would be figuring out how to get the Gaming system data into the json files.

I was just about to write a client side character builder for Pathfinder, and I believe this JSON data will make my task much easier. Looking forward to next weekend now :)

Hi, love the app, infact I forgoe getting an iPad over picking up a Nexu 7 in anticipation of using this app.
Just curious with the release of the Ultimate Equipment and the NPC Codex being uploaded to the PRD, if there is plans to add them to the app, and if so, if you have rough-cut time-estimate?
    Again, love the app!
    Dave.

  6. Timothy F. says:

Are you going to update Pathfinder Open Reference to include Ultimate Equipment?

Also, in the Amazon App Store it’s still only version 1.0.7.

Will they receive an update soon?

  7. Haco says:

Hi another time, i ask to you if you want our help to do your app in Spanish, i can pass you a lot of SRD content in spanish.
Many people in Sapin do not speak english and many don’t understand english and your app in spanish must have many more users if it be in spanish, what do you say?

    • admin says:

I would love to get it in spanish, but it would be a really big project – it’s a lot of content to translate (is there a spanish srd site?)

  8. Damion says:

Love the app, saves me and my friends money on a lot of books. Just a suggestion do you think you make it so users can add there own pictures to monster and race entrys?
